Yi Yi

I was totally swept along by nostalgia here. It’s so well observed. Everything you see looks completely natural, and yet I realised absolutely everything has been placed meticulously; the furniture, toys, toiletries, branded stuff everywhere, clothing. The performances are completely natural too, and the lighting. It doesn’t have the super-real soap opera look, but it also doesn’t look like a movie. It’s hard for me to describe, but it doesn’t have sharp contrast and colours, it looks very natural with diffuse lighting, and yet every scene is like a piece of art.
