Throne of Blood

I am familiar with Macbeth. I had to study it at school more than once, and I was dragged to see it at the theatre a few times throughout my childhood, and I’ve seen it once in adulthood when a friend was in an am-dram production. I’ve never really appreciated it. I’m sure there are people that delight in the language Shakespeare uses, and I’m sure with time and effort maybe I could but for me it was a chore; something I was being subjected to; not something I wanted to appreciate.

Anyway, thanks to Akira Kurosawa, today I truly appreciated what a great story it is! The film looks beautiful, naturally, and it’s ugly too; I really felt the treachery, guilt, paranoia, delusion, decay and desolation. The atmosphere he creates around those themes… wow!
