The Piano Teacher (2001) ♥

I’ve given this a couple of flippant reviews, but as ever with good films, this one has left me thinking about it the whole day after.

Isabelle Huppert managed to convey an incredible amount in just stifling and repressing every emotion. The only smile in the whole thing burst out of her when she defied her Mother, barricading her bedroom door.

It’s crazy seeing her exert so much control over others, knowing that in fact the only thing she really wants is control of her own life, somehow.

It’s not an easy watch.

Ideal mother’s day film.

Relationship status: it’s complicated.
