Le Trou

No dramatic music, no melodrama, no effects and yet this film is absolutely gripping. I feel one thing that makes it compelling is that Jean Keraudy is not acting at all; he leads this escape attempt in a completely matter of fact way, and you’re swept along by it, gritting your teeth the whole way, willing it to happen and praying no one hears the banging and digging and sawing! I’d love to know more about Keraudy.
