Crooks in Clover (1963) ♥

I greatly enjoyed this. Firstly the 4k restoration is really very nicely done. Secondly, I have this titled as Les Tontons Flingueurs (The Gunslinging Uncles). It started off seeming to be a pretty standard gangster style movie, but quickly distinguished itself with varied and very entertaining characters before descending further and further into parody. It’s a really enjoyable film. I’m learning the French language but couldn’t watch without English subtitles. I’ve been led to believe that this film is absolutely full of word play and puns but I couldn’t really appreciate that. It was clear the subtitles were very far from a direct translation so I think I’ll try with French subs next time and see if I can grasp this extra dimension. The fact it’s such an enjoyable film without my being able to fully understand it makes me love it even more and gives it great rewatch value! One other thing of note is just how weird some of the gun sound effects are; like something from a first generation arcade game!
