Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans (2009) ♥

To quote Werner Herzog being interviewed about the making of this film and notionally about the New Orleans he was filming in, post Katrina: “wilderness doesn’t exist for me, a jungle is not a wilderness, it is just something that doesn’t need to be tamed and we shouldn’t try to tame it, but here there’s something like a beast inside, something more existential”; I think he adopted the same attitude with Nic Cage, and the film is so great because of it!
